Club Kit "Silver Specials"
In 1970 Mattel started a Hot Wheels® Club and offered Membership, Club Kit and a "Silver Special" for $1.25. On the Back of the 1970 catalog was a coupon to join the club and receive the Fall Hot Wheels Annual showing all the new 1970 cars and sets in big color pictures, 28 pages of news, offers and fun! You also got a big Membership Kit with Hot Wheels® racing stickers, club patch, your own membership card and certificate. Each member also received one of three "Silver Specials", a Mustang Boss Hoss, Heavy Chevy or King Kuda in chrome with racing stripes and numbers.
I remember getting my Club Kit and opening it on my kitchen table like it was yesterday. The King Kuda on this page is the real one I received that day. The catalog is very cool. It features the real Snake and Mongoose Funny Cars racing on the cover and has info about the drivers Tom "The Mongoose" McEwen and Don "The Snake" Prudhomme who were rivals sponsered by Hot Wheels®. The club mag also features the first pictures of the Hot Wheels® Snake and Mongoose funny cars and Drag Race Set. It also has exellent pictures and info about the rest of the 1970 Cars, Heavyweights, Sizzlers, Race Sets and Accessories. I hope to get more pictures and info posted about the 1970 Hot Wheels® club and the Racing World Magazine soon.
