Don "Snake" Prudomme and Tom "Mongoose" McEwen are top proffesional drag race drivers who have been bitter rivals for years. Mattel joins Plymouth and Coca Cola as major sponsors of the record-holding Mongoose and Snake. Other important sponsoring companies include Wynn's, Federal-Mogul, Cragar, Bell Helmets, Goodyear, Champion, Fram, Pennzoil and B & M Automatic Transmissions.
The Hotwheels Hemi-Cuda and Duster funny cars are exact replicas of the racers that Don and Tom compete in now.
Funny cars look just like stock cars. But the racers in this class are really hot dragsters under a fiberglass shell. They have a lightweight chassis and modified super-charged engine that gulps exotic nitromethene fuel. It takes four gallons for every quarter-mile run. Drag chutes help slow them down after their 200 mph sprint down the drag strip.
